What is A-kassa?
A-kassa is Sweden’s unemployment insurance. If you meet the conditions (membership, work requirement, and active job seeking), it can pay compensation during unemployment.
Is the benefit taxed?
Yes. Unemployment benefits are generally taxable income, which means the amount you receive after tax can be lower than the gross benefit shown.
Why does the benefit change over time (days 1–100, 101–200, etc.)?
Benefit levels can be different across periods in the benefit cycle. The calculator shows period-based amounts so you can understand how compensation may evolve over time.
Do I need 12 months of membership?
Longer membership can be required for income-based compensation. If your membership is shorter, the compensation rate may be lower. Always verify eligibility with your A-kassa fund.
Is this calculator an official decision?
No. It’s an estimate for planning based on the information you enter. Your final benefit depends on your A-kassa fund’s assessment and current rules.

Benefits decrease over time
A-kassa provides highest benefits during the first 100 days. After that, benefits are reduced by 10 percentage points until day 200, and by an additional 5 percentage points until day 300. Plan to find new employment as soon as possible.
Membership duration determines benefit level
With 12+ months membership you receive 80% benefit for the first 100 days. 6-11 months gives 60%, and 0-5 months only 50%. Join A-kassa as soon as you start working for maximum security.
Maximum cap of 34,000 SEK/month
A-kassa is calculated based on a maximum of 34,000 SEK monthly salary. Higher earnings do not affect benefits. For the first 100 days, you can receive maximum approximately 27,200 SEK/month (80% of 34,000 SEK) before tax.
Benefits are taxable
Unemployment benefits count as income and are taxed. Remember to account for this when planning your finances. Approximately 30% of benefits go to taxes.
Active job seeking required
To receive benefits you must be actively seeking work and cooperate with Arbetsförmedlingen. You must be able to show that you regularly apply for jobs and be prepared to accept offered positions.
Up to 300 benefit days
You can receive maximum 300 benefit days if you had 11-12 months with income during the qualifying period. With 8-10 months of income you get 200 days, and 4-7 months gives 100 days.
