Speed and Pace Converter – min/km, min/mile and km/h

Convert running pace and speed between min/km, min/mile, km/h, mph, m/s, and Swedish min/mil.

Speed or pace

Enter a value and choose its current and target units.

For pace, use minutes:seconds, for example 7:30.

Analysis & guidance

  • Match the context

Use pace for running plans and speed for treadmills, cycling, traffic, or engineering.

  • Quick check

    A 5:00 min/km pace equals 12 km/h.

  • Conditions matter

Terrain, wind, heat, and fatigue change the pace you can sustain.

Common questions

How do I convert min/km to km/h?

Divide 60 by the pace in decimal minutes. A 5:00 min/km pace equals 12 km/h.

How do I enter 5 minutes 30 seconds?

Enter 5:30. The converter reads the value as minutes and seconds when a pace unit is selected.

What is the difference between min/mile and min/mil?

min/mile covers 1.609344 km, while Swedish min/mil covers exactly 10 km.

Runner-friendly pace

Enter minutes and seconds with a colon, such as 5:30 per kilometre, rather than calculating decimal minutes.

Speed and pace run opposite ways

A higher speed is faster, while a lower minutes-per-distance pace is faster.

Mile and Swedish mil

An English mile is 1.609344 km. A Swedish mil is 10 km, so the two pace units are very different.

Convert speed and pace between km/h, mph, m/s and min/km

Speed and pace describe the same movement from opposite directions. Speed tells you how far you travel in a fixed time. Pace tells you how long a fixed distance takes.

Higher speed, lower pace

For km/h, mph, and m/s, a larger number means faster movement. For min/km and min/mile, a smaller number means faster movement. A pace of 5:00 min/km equals 12 km/h; at 15 km/h the pace is 4:00 min/km.

Enter minutes and seconds correctly

5:30 means five minutes and thirty seconds, which is 5.5 decimal minutes. It does not mean 5.30 minutes. The seconds after the colon must be between 00 and 59.

The converter accepts both colon-formatted pace and decimal values. Colon format is usually best when copying from a running watch or training app.

Mile and Swedish mil

An international mile is exactly 1.609344 km. A Swedish mil is exactly 10 km. They are different distances even though their names look similar. Select min/mile for the international mile and min/mil only for the Swedish 10-kilometre unit.

Road and technical speed

Many countries use km/h on roads, while the US and UK use mph. Metres per second is common in science and wind reporting. One m/s equals exactly 3.6 km/h.

Converting a speed does not decide whether it is legal or safe. Follow local limits and adjust for traffic, visibility, and road conditions.

Plan a race target

At an even 5:30 min/km, 5 km takes about 27:30, 10 km takes 55 minutes, and a half marathon about 1:56. Hills, weather, congestion, and fatigue affect real results, so treat the calculation as a planning target rather than a promise.

If a familiar walking or running pace produces hundreds of km/h, recheck the source unit and the colon-formatted input.

How to read this calculator

These results are meant as guidance. They are based on rules, assumptions, and simplified models that can differ from your exact real-world situation.

Estimate, not a legal decision

Use the result as decision support and planning help. For high-stakes choices, confirm the details with the relevant authority, lender, employer, or adviser.
