Lease or buy a car – compare two options
Compare two cars using cash, bank finance or leasing over equal time and mileage. See economic cost, payments, net sale proceeds and remaining debt.
Equal time and mileage
Use the same years and kilometres for both options. Energy cost is mileage divided by 100 times consumption and energy price. Add your annual insurance, tax, service, tyre and parking expenses without repeating anything included in a quote.
Finance, balloon and final value
Bank finance uses annuity payments with an optional balloon. Cost equals all cash payments minus sale value net of remaining debt. When the loan matures before comparison end, its balloon is paid then. If maturity coincides with the comparison end, debt is settled against the sale.
Use your leasing agreement
Initial, monthly and other lease expenses are included. No car is owned at the end, so there are no sale proceeds. Your quote must cover the entire period and mileage. Enter known return or excess-mileage charges yourself; contract conditions are not inferred.
Example
Paying SEK 200,000 cash and selling for SEK 100,000 after three years costs SEK 100,000 before running costs. A zero-interest loan with SEK 40,000 down and SEK 80,000 remaining balloon produces SEK 120,000 payments and SEK 20,000 net sale proceeds: the same SEK 100,000 cost. A lease of SEK 3,000 monthly plus SEK 10,000 initial payment costs SEK 118,000 with no car owned at the end.
Method and scope
Personal scenarios, not value forecasts or credit offers. Interest is constant. Tax relief, opportunity returns and inflation are excluded. Enter insurance, tax and other running costs yourself, and verify lease fees and included services against the contract. Mileage affects energy and per-kilometre cost, not an automatic excess-mileage charge.
