Drywall quantity and cost calculator
How many drywall boards and studs do I need?
Drywall board count uses wall area minus openings, clad sides, layers and selected waste. Studs, tracks and insulation are counted separately to budget the materials for an internal wall.
Net wall area is length × height minus openings. Multiply by clad sides and board layers, add board waste, and divide by board area. Studs are length divided by selected spacing, rounded up, plus one end stud and extra studs. Insulation covers net wall area once.
Worked example
The prices below are illustrative inputs, not market prices. Replace them with your quotes or store prices.
Length: 4 m; Height: 2.5 m; Total opening area: 2 m² → net wall area: 8 m². Clad sides: 2; Layers per side: 2 → total board area: 32 m².
Board width: 1 m; Board height: 2 m; Waste: 0% → 16 boards. Stud spacing: 0.5 m; Extra studs at openings: 2 → 11 studs. Insulation per pack: 3 m² → 3 insulation packs.
Stock track length: 3 m → 8 m / 3 m → 3 track lengths to buy. Price per board: 10 SEK; Price per full-height stud: 20 SEK; Price per insulation pack: 30 SEK; Price per track length: 20 SEK → material subtotal: 16 × 10 + 11 × 20 + 3 × 30 + 3 × 20 = 530 SEK.
What is excluded from the material budget?
This is a quantity budget, not an assessment of structural, fire or acoustic performance. Boards are area-based; joint placement and cutting may require more. Enter extra opening studs manually. Top and bottom tracks cover two wall lengths and are purchased in complete stock lengths. Openings do not reduce the basic stud count. Screws, filler, fixings and opening reinforcement beyond extra studs are excluded. Select the wall system and stud spacing using manufacturer instructions.
Enter your own SEK prices per complete package or piece as labelled. Zero means that cost has not been budgeted. Labor and delivery are added separately.

Once the internal wall is planned, calculate its finish with the paint quantity calculator. Plan other finishes in the room renovation budget, keeping the wall structure as a separate material item.
