Fence calculator: boards, posts and cost
Calculate fence boards, posts and rail lengths from dimensions, spacing and waste. Use your own prices to estimate the material and total cost.
How many boards and posts does my fence need?
A 10 m fence with maximum 2 m post spacing needs 6 posts. With 100 mm vertical boards, no gaps and no waste, it needs 100 boards. Adjust gaps and spacing to your layout; board counts round up per bay.
How do post spacing and gaps affect quantities?
A straight run is split into equal bays no wider than your chosen post spacing, with an extra end post. Vertical boards round up per bay; height determines board length and rail rows determine rail length.
What do materials for a 10 metre fence cost?
10 m long, 1.2 m high, posts at 2 m, 100 mm boards, no gap, two rails and 0% waste: 6 posts, 100 boards (120 m) and 20 m of rails. At 50 SEK/post, 20 SEK/m of board and 10 SEK/m of rail: 2,900 SEK.
What should I check before building the fence?
One straight run without gates, corners or slopes. Post width is not deducted. Foundations, fittings, screws and treatment are excluded. Check the structure separately; board and rail prices are per metre.
Prices are your own in SEK, including whichever VAT you budget for. Labour and delivery are added separately. A zero price means a missing cost, not free materials.
