Paving calculator: pavers and base volume

How many pavers and how much base do I need?

Pavers with covering dimensions of 200 × 100 mm require 50 pavers per m² before waste. A 12 m² area with 10% waste needs 660 pavers, bought in 14 packs of 50. At an entered base depth of 15 cm, that area needs 1.8 m³ of base; 3 cm bedding needs 0.36 m³.

Analysis & guidance
  • How many pavers and how much base do I need?

Pavers with covering dimensions of 200 × 100 mm require 50 pavers per m² before waste. A 12 m² area with 10% waste needs 660 pavers, bought in 14 packs of 50. At an entered base depth of 15 cm, that area needs 1.8 m³ of base; 3 cm bedding needs 0.36 m³.

  • What does a 12 m² paved area need?

4 × 3 m, 200 × 100 mm pavers and 10% waste need 660 pavers. Packs of 50 mean 14 packs and 700 purchased pavers. Depths of 15 cm and 3 cm give 1.8 m³ base and 0.36 m³ bedding. At 100 SEK/pack, 500 SEK/m³ and 1,000 SEK/m³: 2,660 SEK. Volumes use the entered depths without a compaction allowance. Converting to tonnes requires supplier density; that conversion is excluded.

  • What is excluded from the paving estimate?

Enter covering paver dimensions including joints as specified by the product. Volumes are geometric with no compaction or density conversion; prices must use the same volume basis. Edging, jointing sand, fabric and excavation are excluded. Layer depths are not a structural assessment.

About this calculator

Paving calculator: pavers and base volume

Calculate whole packs of pavers and base and bedding volumes in m³. Enter dimensions, waste and your own prices for a material and total budget.

How are whole packs and layer volumes calculated?

Area divided by the covering dimensions gives the paver requirement. Waste is added before rounding to pavers and whole packs. Base and bedding each use area × entered depth.

What does a 12 m² paved area need?

4 × 3 m, 200 × 100 mm pavers and 10% waste need 660 pavers. Packs of 50 mean 14 packs and 700 purchased pavers. Depths of 15 cm and 3 cm give 1.8 m³ base and 0.36 m³ bedding. At 100 SEK/pack, 500 SEK/m³ and 1,000 SEK/m³: 2,660 SEK.

Volumes use the entered depths without a compaction allowance. Converting to tonnes requires supplier density; that conversion is excluded.
